Meet Baroness Falkner of Margravine, Chairperson of the Policy Exchange, a right-wing lobby group with extreme views, including –

  • UK to free itself from the European Convention on Human Rights
  • Replacing the Human Rights Act with a Bill of Rights or repealed without replacement
  • Amending or repealing the Equality Act

Their policy document Project 2029 can be seen here

Policy Exchange says of itself - “Policy Exchange’s status as the UK’s most influential think tank is widely recognised, acknowledged by the Daily Mail in 2026 as “Westminster’s leading think tank.”

Baroness Falkner is the previous Chairperson of the UK Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) and is responsible for producing the “Update on Code of Practice for services, public functions and associations” that is to be laid before parliament before the end of this month (May 2026).

Baroness Falkner was appointed Chair of the EHRC in 2020 by the Conservative, Boris Johnson government and re-appointed in 2024 by the Labour government led by Kier Starmer.

I can understand a Conservative Party appointing a right-wing person to lead an Equality and Human Rights organisation but not why the Labour Party should re-appoint them. The appointment is overseen by the Cabinet Office – the same department responsible for the disastrous 2025 appointment of Lord Mandelson to the role of British Ambassador to the United States.

It was the Labour Party who introduced the Gender Recognition Act in 2004 and the Equality Act in 2010 – will it be the current Labour Party who will see the virtual repeal of the GRA and a substantial change in the Equality Act?
